Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Movie buffs may recognize this spot as the site of the opening scene from Ridley Scott’s film Prometheus. The waterfall is situated in the Jökulsá river, which flows from the Vatnajökull glacier. The river collects water from a large area in northeastern Iceland. The falls are 100 metres wide and have a drop of 44 metres down to the glacial river canyon.
